Fixed fees
Individual returns lead. Prices published.
Most tax work here is a regular household return: a W-2 job, maybe a mortgage and a couple of 1099s. Those fees are flat and public — $225 single, $250 joint, federal plus one state, e-file included. Self-employed and business returns are on the same published list. Your exact fee is confirmed in writing before work begins and is due before your return is transmitted — no surprise bill afterward.
Individual return — Form 1040
$225 single · $250 joint
The standard household return: W-2 income, interest and dividends, mortgage interest, credits for the kids. Federal + 1 state, e-file included.
Self-employed — Schedule C
$550
For sole proprietors, gig workers, and 1099 earners: your 1040 with Schedule C, business income and expenses sorted, e-file included.
Each additional state
+$75
Moved mid-year, or work in a second state? Each additional state return added to any return above is a flat $75.
Business returns, too
Own a business? Skyline prepares the entity return and your personal return together, so the numbers tie out the first time — and if we keep your books all year, tax season starts from figures we already trust.
- S corporations & partnerships (Forms 1120-S & 1065, K-1s included)
- Business owner's personal return — $650 with a business engagement
- Real estate investors — rentals, short-term rentals, cost segregation
- Multi-state returns — nearly every state (Oregon & Maryland individuals excepted)
One scope note, plainly: Skyline prepares and e-files returns. We don't represent clients before the IRS or handle audits — if that's what you need, we'll tell you up front rather than take the engagement.
Fixed fees
*With a business engagement. E-file included in every fee. Slots fill from January onward — clients who send documents early get filed first.
What to send us
The simple W-2 return checklist
For a straightforward W-2 return, this is the whole list. Gather what's here, upload it to the secure client portal once you're engaged, and we handle the rest. Please never send Social Security numbers or tax documents by email or text — the portal exists for exactly that reason.
Send these
- Your W-2 from every employer — including a second job, or a job you left during the year
- Any 1099s you received — bank interest (1099-INT), dividends (1099-DIV), unemployment (1099-G), Social Security (SSA-1099), retirement distributions (1099-R)
- Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098) and your property tax bill or receipts, if you own your home
- Last year's tax return, if you're new to Skyline — it helps us match IRS records and catch anything that carries over
If they apply to you
- Form 1098-T and tuition receipts for a student in the family
- HSA and IRA contribution statements (Forms 5498 / 5498-SA)
- Childcare provider's name, address, and tax ID if you claim the dependent care credit
- Records of estimated tax payments you made during the year
- Any letters from the IRS or the state about your taxes
Missing something? Send what you have — we'll tell you exactly what's still needed before we start, so there are no surprises on either side.
Send documents in January
Returns are prepared in the order complete document sets arrive. Clients who send everything in January get filed first — refunds land sooner and you skip the March–April scramble entirely. Tax slots are reserved in the order engagement letters are signed, so ask for your written quote now to hold your place.
How it works
From first email to filed
- 1
Ask for your free written quote. Email john@skylinebookkeeping.net or call (774) 327-0188 with the basics of your return. Written quotes are always free — you'll get an exact fixed fee back in writing.
- 2
Sign the short engagement letter. It spells out the scope and your fixed fee, agreed in writing before any work starts — and signing it is what reserves your slot for the season.
- 3
Send documents through the secure portal. Tax documents move through our client portal (skylinebookkeeping.SecureFilePro.com) — never Social Security numbers or bank details by email or text. Use the checklist above; early filers who send everything in January get filed first.
- 4
Review, pay, and we e-file. John prepares your return himself and reviews the finished return with you. Your fee is due before the return is transmitted — then it's e-filed, and you get confirmation when the IRS and state accept it.
Local — and remote nationwide
Based in Buzzards Bay, preparing returns for neighbors across Wareham and the South Coast — and for clients across the country who work with us entirely through the portal, with the same fixed fees and the same preparer.
Need more than taxes? Skyline also does monthly bookkeeping, certified payroll reporting, QuickBooks cleanup, Form 5472, 5471, FBAR & international filings, and cost segregation studies — see all services on the homepage.
